About this course

What will I study?

Throughout the course, you will study a variety of different topics, each designed to develop your understanding of business and build the key skills that today’s employers expect from top-calibre graduate recruits.

You can expect to study modules covering business ethics, supply chain management and strategic management and leadership to support your future aspirations.

How will I be taught and assessed?

The course will be taught using a variety of teaching and learning strategies to encourage and develop your independent learning skills. You will be assessed based on a combination of examinations, coursework and a project.

The project is supported by taught sessions on research methods. It allows you to select a topic of interest to you and engage in academic research to deepen and apply the theoretical knowledge you have gained throughout the course.

Careers and further study

A degree in business can lead to a career in business leadership and management as well as the opportunity to further develop your business knowledge through postgraduate study. Upon graduation you could enter a career in consultancy, marketing, health management, human resource management or operations management, as well as having the skills to set up your own business.

If you pass with a minimum of a 2:2 and would like to continue your studies, you may be eligible to progress on to one of our postgraduate business degrees at the London Campus. These programmes include the opportunity for you to specialise in either Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management, International Management, Financial Management or Marketing Management as part of your Business Masters. For those wanting to experience study in a different city, you may also be eligible to progress on to one of our Masters programmes at our main campus in Newcastle.

All modules on this course are core.

The course will be taught using a variety of teaching and learning strategies to encourage and develop your independent learning skills.

Develop skills in critical thinking and reflection. Develop the ability to undertake a critical review of existing literature on a contemporary issue within the business and management disciplines and to be able to write a critical literature review.

This module is designed for level 6 students in completion programmes to equip them with the necessary knowledge and transferable skills for their future employability and career development. Students will also receive support in extending their academic skills so that they can take a critical approach to this module and their wider studies.

The rationale of the module is to develop a coherent understanding of the issues relating to theory and practical applications of cultural and organisational impacts on organisations and institutions in the global and international environment.

This module is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills and techniques to be able to analyse, formulate, create and develop the strategy behind Logistics and Supply Chain Management practices and procedures.

This module is designed to learn the skills of research, critically evaluation and apply theory to a contemporary issue. Conduct an extended literature review involving the critical evaluation of appropriate concepts, theories, models, frameworks and principles against business and management practice (i.e. synthesis of theory and practice).

This module is designed for students who have entered completion programmes at Level 6. The overall aim of the module is to teach students how organisations can compete successfully in economic terms while managing their social and environmental responsibility.

This module examines different concepts of international marketing within today’s dynamic world trading environment, and analyses the differences within aspects of domestic and international marketing planning. Whilst there will be clear links to international business, the module will concentrate on international marketing issues with a heavy emphasis placed upon the challenges of marketing communication in the global market place and in particular international advertising.
