If you’re looking for the taste of Nigeria in London, or to catch the latest Nigerian beats, there are lots of places to try. One of the city’s publications has collated this shortlist of some of the best of Nigerian London:

Eat

  • Aso Rock – Dalston – grab rice, stew and plantain to takeaway for under £5
  • 805 – Peckham – for classic dishes like suya
  • John & Biola – Thamesmead and Ades – Woolwich – pick up homegrown groceries

Social

  • Steam Bar – Paddington – holds a weekly Nigerian club night
  • Soboye – Shoreditch – fashion boutique store owned by Nigerian-born Samson Soboye

Extra London highlights

As a multicultural city, London offers a wealth of opportunities and experiences. Below are just a few of our recommendations, with a city like London, it really is yours to make your own.

Shopping

From huge shopping centres such as Westfields in Shepherds Bush and Stratford, London is also home to Europe’s busiest shopping street, Oxford Street, where you can find Selfridges, John Lewis, Topshop and many more. Liberty, Hamleys and Apple all have stores nearby in the area and you can find stores including Harrods and many designer shops further afield in Kensington and Chelsea.

Food

A benefit of being such a diverse city, you can find any cuisine you look for in London. From street markets like Petticoat Lane, Spitalfields, Borough Market, Brick Lane, Broadway Market and venues like Dinerama and Pump near the campus, to high end restaurants, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Views

London is a big sprawling city but it also offers some great vantage points too for you to see the city. Climb to the top of Primrose Hill or Greenwich Park for a view over London. Alternatively, you can head up to the Sky Garden on Fenchurch Street, or the Shard to wonder at the city from the comfort of indoors.

Culture

If you’re looking for culture – London’s West End always has big theatre and comedy shows on throughout the year. Music-venues are also plentiful, with the O2, Brixton Academy and Roundhouse to name a few. In addition there is an extensive range of museums to visit, including the British Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Museum of Branding, and galleries like the Tate, the Saatchi and the National Gallery.

If you’re a football fan, London is home to some of the country’s top Premier League Football clubs: Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham and Fulham, amongst many other smaller teams.

“Northumbria University has helped me to overcome my stage fright and develop my confidence to talk in front of a group of people; in classrooms and to people that I do not know. I feel more comfortable talking in class and meeting new people. The lecturers have taught me to have an open minded approach, this has made me feel willing to attempt anything. They tell us to ‘behave like managers’ and see ourselves at the top and to always have a positive attitude.”
