London is an exciting and diverse city to study in and home to many Vietnamese. There are particularly large Vietnamese communities in Lewisham, Hackney and Southwark.

Places to eat

If you are looking for bánh mì, pho, or another taste of home, there are a growing number of Vietnamese restaurants nearby located on Kingsland Road (a 15 minute walk from the Campus) or Mare Street (a 15 minute bus ride away). See TimeOut’s list of the best Vietnamese restaurants in London.

You can also find several Asian supermarkets in nearby if you are looking to cook for yourself.

Travel

To travel around London, you can buy an Oystercard from any train station, travel and information centre or most newsagents will sell them too. As a full-time student you’ll be eligible to buy an 18+ Student Oyster photocard, which will make your travel around the city cheaper.

Your Oyster card will cover you to travel on buses, tubes, trams, the overground and selected mainline trains within zones 1-9. For more information on Oyster cards visit the TfL website.

We also recommend downloading one of the many available travel apps for your smartphone to help you plan your routes. One of our favourites is CityMapper.

Weather

The weather in the UK can be changeable but London can often be a degree warmer than the rest of the UK.

Winter: December-February

Generally the city sees temperatures between 3ºC – 8ºC and the days can see a mix of cold and sunny, or rain and fog.

Spring: March-May

Early March can still see rain, but the days get longer and there by May the temperatures are more likely to be between 4ºC – 18ºC.

Summer: June-August

Summer is when London sees its busiest period with the summer holidays in the UK. The days are longer and usually temperatures range from 11ºC – 23ºC

Autumn: September-November

Autumn can be very pleasant in London with sunny, dry days – September temperatures can still reach 20ºC. Towards the November, days get shorter and cooler. Temperatures usually are between 5ºC – 20ºC.

Staying connected

London is a busy business city and also home to a number of universities and colleges. Unsurprisingly, this means that people want to stay connected to the internet wherever you are. Many cafes, coffee shops, libraries and stores now have free Wi-Fi for customers to use. So if you want a change of scenery while working on your latest assignment you will still be able to connect your laptop to access our online library resources.

“I chose the London Campus for my Pre-Masters and Masters because it meant that I could have a change of city and study environment. The option of a January intake was ideal for me, allowing me to continue my studies after completing my Engineering undergraduate degree. I really like the small and friendly feel of the campus, it means that it’s very easy to speak with the lecturers and other students a lot.”
