In December, more than 100 students and staff joined the Northumbria Students’ Union, London Campus for an end of term party before finishing for the festive break. Ingrid Charles, our London Campus Coordinator for the Students’ Union tells us more…
“As part of the event, some of our international and European students showcased their cultures; exhibiting their local dress, enlightening us with history, interesting facts and their local traditions.
We had the famous Jollof rice of Nigeria; the rolled fish delicacies of Russian cuisine; delicious cakes from Lithuania; we found out about the famous night markets of Taiwan; the many rivers of Pakistan; we learnt about the Buddhists of Sri Lanka; sampled traditional sweets from a very colourful Polish stall; we ate amazing dhal and naan from Bangladesh, we tasted fabulous spiced meats from India; we had cakes and salsa lessons courtesy of our Colombian students; homemade traditional Chinese food, spicy, appetising biscuits from Ghana; enchanting pineapple cake from Dominica, sweet buns from Vietnam and an array of delights from Somalia.
As the party warmed up and the Karaoke singers started to get tired, we were treated to a Bollywood dance lesson. The students made it look so elegantly easy!
Later, when we were feeling braver, the afternoon ended with a graceful, Salsa dance led by some of our Colombian students.
Overall, it was a great way to celebrate the end of a year of hard work for students and staff…and to get ready for the new term!”
