In a remarkable effort, a team of four talented students from Northumbria University London have clinched the top spot in the ISACA London Chapter’s Annual Cyber Security Case Study Competition.

MSc Cyber Security with Advanced Practice students Osama Akram, Isuru Arachchigie, Pubudu Wado and Rubina Siddique have been named winners of the recent ISACA’s Annual Cyber Security Case Study Competition. Analysing a real-world case study, the self-named team “);DROP TABLE *;” highlighted their understanding of information systems, controls, cyber security, and artificial intelligence, presenting their insights at the 2024 ISACA London Chapter’s Annual Event – one of the biggest among 225 chapters worldwide.

Commenting on the win, Rubina Siddique said: “Participating in and winning the ISACA London Chapter’s first Cyber security case study competition was a wonderful experience for me and my teammates, as it validated our hard work and dedication, and boosted our confidence in addressing real world cyber threats. This competition not only provided a platform to show our understanding of complex security issues but also taught us the value of teamwork, presentation, and problem-solving skills.”

MSc Cyber Security Programme Leader Professor Hamid Jahankhani, who lent his support to Northumbria University London’s winning team, highlighted that: “Entering students to these types of challenges is not about winning only, which of course is always nice, but it is about, preparing our students for their career aspirations. Events like these provide platforms for our students to develop self-confidence, presentation, and research skills on their chosen topics and, above all, add extra thrust required for their future employment endeavours.”

This impressive achievement celebrates the students’ hard work, ingenuity, and dedication and shines a spotlight on the practical, hands-on approach embedded within Northumbria University’s MSc Cyber Security with Advanced Practice programme.

In response to the rising demand for skilled cyber security professionals, the programme blends theoretical knowledge with practical application to develop critical skills that boost student employability. With opportunities for internships and competitive engagements, students are equipped with sought-after skills and experiences to navigate this specialised field confidently.
