In this short video, Dr. Guy Brown, Director of the Northumbria University London Campus, introduces our newest part-time Masters programme, the MSc Professional Practice. Available as two separate awards, Computing and IT or Project Management, this Masters programme is ideal for busy working professionals looking for a highly applied work-related postgraduate degree.

“Designed for working professionals, this programme takes into consideration your busy professional and personal life, enabling you to earn a Masters education around your existing responsibilities. Ideal for those looking to develop their careers within project management or computing and IT, this Masters will develop your knowledge and skills to support professional best practice.

The programme begins by assuming you have not studied at undergraduate degree or postgraduate degree level before and as such the first module centres around building your academic writing skills and ensuring you will get the most out of our facilities. You will reflect on the training and development you have already undertaken as part of your current employment, including any accredited certifications, on-the-job training or internal training programmes you may have completed. There are two pathways available for this programme, allowing you to focus your Masters on areas you wish to develop and advance in.

Assessment for each module is centred around research and consultancy reports which focus on analytical and reflective writing, aiming to deliver impact to your employer. Any continued professional development (CPD) training you have completed in the past will be utilised to make a difference within your current organisation or assist you in progressing into a new career path.

You are supported in the completion of your assessments with 1:1 support from a dedicated guidance tutor, ensuring that each module is tailored to your desired learning outcomes.

As the programme progresses you will develop the skills needed to conduct, compile and analyse research, delivering realistic solutions and recommendations back to your workplace.

The programme also focuses on you as a leader, whether you are currently in a leadership position or aspire to be, we cover the principles of effective leadership and strategy development, again aiming to deliver maximum impact within your professional environment.

Your final management investigation will focus on a work related topic of your choice. This final report gives you the opportunity to build a plan for your own role, department or organisation. Throughout you are supported by your guidance tutor in developing meaningful recommendations for improvement and best practice.”
